Electron-deuteron scattering in a relativistic theory of hadrons

چکیده

We review a three-dimensional formalism that provides a systematic way to include relativistic effects including relativistic kinematics, the effects of negativeenergy states, and the boosts of the two-body system in calculations of two-body bound-states. We then explain how to construct a conserved current within this relativistic three-dimensional approach. This general theoretical framework is specifically applied to electron-deuteron scattering both in impulse approximation and when the ρπγ meson-exchange current is included. The experimentally-measured quantities A, B, and T20 are calculated over the kinematic range that is probed in Jefferson Lab experiments. The role of both negative-energy states and meson retardation appears to be small in the region of interest.

On the S–wave πD–scattering length in the relativistic field theory model of the deuteron

The S–wave scattering length of the strong pion–deuteron (πD) scattering is calculated in the relativistic field theory model of the deuteron suggested in [1,2].The theoretical result agrees well with the experimental data. The important role of the ∆–resonance contribution to the elastic πD–scattering is confirmed. PACS: 11.10. Ef, 12.39. Fe, 13.75. Cs, 13.75 Gx

Nucleon-Nucleon Effective Field Theory Without Pions

Nuclear processes involving momenta much below the mass of the pion may be described by an effective field theory in which the pions do not appear as explicit degrees of freedom. The effects of the pion and all other virtual hadrons are reproduced by the coefficients of gauge-invariant local operators involving the nucleon field. Nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shift data constrains many of th...

Probing the Short-range Dynamics in Exclusive Scattering off Polarized Deuteron

Employing the polarization degrees of freedom in the deuteron allows to isolate smaller than average inter-nucleon distances in the deuteron. As a result one can identify set of high Q2 reactions off polarized deuteron which are particularly sensitive to the short range dynamics of strong interaction. We concentrate on the studies of several aspects of the short range phenomena. These are the r...

Measurement of tensor polarization in elastic electron-deuteron scattering at large momentum transfer

Tensor polarization observables ( t(20), t(21), and t(22)) have been measured in elastic electron-deuteron scattering for six values of momentum transfer between 0.66 and 1.7 (GeV/c)(2). The experiment was performed at the Jefferson Laboratory in Hall C using the electron High Momentum Spectrometer, a specially designed deuteron magnetic channel and the recoil deuteron polarimeter POLDER. The n...
